Connecting Zoom
How to add the Skillfull integration for Zoom, what it can see, how to use it, and how to remove it.
What it does
Skillfull turns recorded sessions into trackable online courses. This integration connects your own Zoom account so that your Zoom cloud recordings can become courses without downloading and re-uploading files by hand.
You need a Skillfull account with permission to create courses, and a Zoom plan that includes cloud recording. Zoom keeps no cloud recordings on plans that do not include it, so there would be nothing to bring across.
Adding it
- Sign in to Skillfull.
- Open the Zoom page, at /curator/zoom.
- Select Connect your Zoom account.
- Zoom asks you to sign in, then shows exactly what you are approving. Accept every permission.
- You are returned to Skillfull, which shows the Zoom account that is now connected.
If any permission is held back, the page says which one and offers to authorise again. If the options are greyed out on Zoom's screen, your Zoom account administrator has restricted them and will need to allow them for you.
What it can see
- The list of cloud recordings on your own Zoom account.
- The files that make up a recording you choose to bring across, so it can be copied.
- Your Zoom user identifier and the email address on the account, read once when you connect, so the page can show you which account is linked.
The connection is read only. It never creates, changes, ends or deletes a meeting or webinar, never reads your participant list, never posts to chat, and never writes anything back to your Zoom account.
Using it
- On the Zoom page, select Browse my recordings.
- You see the cloud recordings on your own Zoom account, going back up to twenty four months.
- Play one in place to check it is the right session. Nothing is copied until you choose it.
- Bring it across. Skillfull copies that file into your library and builds a course around it.
If Zoom already made a transcript for that meeting, Skillfull uses Zoom's transcript rather than producing its own. A single recording can be up to 10 GB.
Removing it
You can remove the integration from either side, and both have the same effect on the connection.
From Skillfull
- Open the Zoom page at /curator/zoom.
- Select Disconnect Zoom and confirm.
From Zoom
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
- Open Manage, then Added Apps.
- Find Skillfull and select Remove.
What happens to your data
Either route asks Zoom to cancel the key, then erases that key from Skillfull along with the refresh key, your Zoom user identifier, the Zoom account email address and the record of what you had approved. Skillfull can no longer reach your Zoom account.
Courses, recordings and transcripts you already brought across stay in your library. They are your content, and removing the integration is not a request to delete them. If you want that content removed as well, ask us and we will do it.
You can connect again at any time. Nothing about removing it prevents that.
If something is not working
- No recordings listed: check your Zoom plan includes cloud recording, and that the meeting was recorded to the cloud rather than to the computer.
- A permission is missing: authorise again and accept everything on Zoom's screen.
- You are asked to connect again: Zoom expires access periodically, and reconnecting restores it without affecting anything you have already brought across.
